My husband just got pinpoint orders there this week and we should be leaving in August. How did you like it? I hear it's very rural which isn't what I would like but I'll be fine with. How was housing? I looked a bit at Army One Stop but want personal opinions. Any recommendations on how much furniture to bring? We don't really have much, just couch, loveseat, chair, kitchen table and chairs, queen bed, dresser, entertainment center, toddler bed, crib, and 2 small dressers. Should that all fit? We have 2 kids so I think we'd be getting at least 3 bedrooms, right? What were your favorite things to do? Travel to Czech Republic since it's so close? Anything you have to offer about your experience I'll take!! Thanks!

Hi Elizabeth, I also need information on Grafenwoehr. We are going there when he gets back from Iraq. I have NO idea what things I need for my kids as in school and shots. What we can and cannot take. I really am having a HARD time accepting all the things that come along with moving overseas,as im scared I will not do it right of I will forget something. Do you happen to know the answers to some of those questions? My mother also used to live in germany, and I was born there. I will see if she can tell me some things about the area there. I will post them as soon as I know. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Do you know how long after he gets back you are supposed to be going? He should have someone at the in/out processing center on post working with him and you will have briefings to attend and they give you all that information. We have only been to one briefing so far but that's only because you cannot start working on your orders until you are within 4 months of PCSing, so next month we will start all that and I will be able to answer your questions then. Your husband has probably gotten an email stating that he will need to get his briefing packet from his S1 when he gets back and then you both will go to a briefing and they will give you soooooo much info and answer any questions you have. If you go to www.armywivesforums.com, they have a LOT of information on PCSing overseas and most all you should expect and what you need to do. There will be plenty of people to help us as we go along, so don't worry too much!

We came from there it was great and has since been built up. It has a huge PX and lots to do in the area. We moved away from there in 2007 but still have many friends that live in the area. Good housing, a lot is stairwell housing and some is like the housing by the px here, but mostly stairwell unless you are e7 or above. Czech is nice but really dirty in big cities. Poland is nice, and so is Garmisch. That is a ski resort in the southern end. It may be hard at first but it will grow on you. I do recomend spending a lot on clothes for your kids before you leave but thats just me. I loved the german baby clothes but i prefer our clothes. You can always order online so dont freak out, but i would always plan on spending about 300 on clothes when we came home to visit. It is very hard to get a daycare spot over there and there are not many jobs for spouses of course that depends on the person. Hope some of this helps. I will post more later after kids go to bed. We lived in 2 different place while over there and visited all over!

He comes back in Oct. and they said 90 days from the time he gets back. We arent married as of yet so you cant really call him my husband though. But its happening and we ARE going. Im the type of person that has to have everything in order before I move. Apparently this wont be the case this time as im not in charge :) Thanks for what you did help me with though. Ill make sure he stays on top of it as much as he can. :)

Thanks Bohica for the info! I was really hoping for something like Stuttgart or K-town in eastern Germany to be closer to France, but oh well. Kirsten, you are going to HAVE to get married ASAP when he gets back so he can start applying for command sponsorship which is where the Army will allow you to travel with him over there. if you are not married, they will not take allow you to go with him. I guess your only choice would be to move to Germany on your own if that happens. I've heard from many people that getting command sponsorship can take a very long time, so don't mean to freak you out even more but you may end up having to get deferred travel which is where he goes over there and then once you're approved for command sponsorship you can follow behind. You should really go to Armywivesforums.com if you haven't yet because there are a lot of women on there that could answer your questions.

Personally France has a great hype but doesn't deliver. I really loved Germany and France was just expensive and dirty. Germans are really clean for the most part and you can always find good food and affordable things to do. From the time we applied for Command Sponsorship it took about 2 months. But he was annoying and stayed on top of everything. But i have seen it take 2 weeks and 6 months....so it all depends how on top of everyone is. Good luck, let me know if you have any other ?s. If you find out what unit he is going to i can find out their deployment rotation. I still have some friends in high places over there. Oh i forgot the FRG over there at least in the units i was in and my friends were in are really good. Nothing like they are here. Because that is all some people have over there so they tend to make the most of it.

Thanks Elizabeth. We plan on getting married ASAP anyways,we would have done it on R&R but since I was born in Germany it was a little hard figuring out what type of birth certificate I needed for such things. Thank goodness its finally taken care of. My dad said there was a possibility that he would have to go without us,so I knew that was an issue I would have to face. Like all things it has to be fine. Im really hoping that things workout as smoothly as possible for us. I appreciate the things that you HAVE told me though. Its really helping me out alot and its not scaring me in the least bit....its actually alleviating some of the stress if you can beleive that.
