Hi, I am looking for any feedback on some of the elementary schools in the area. My son will start kindergarten this fall and he is going to be my first school-aged child, so Im a little nervous and apprehensive and really want him to go to a school that he will not only enjoy but that has good qualities itself. We just bought a house this past year and thd school zone we live in says he will attend Glenellen Elementary. I havent hear anything about the school but there is also open enrollment for kindergarten at Cumberland Heights Elementary, Montgomery Central Elementary and Northeast Elementary. So any feedback on any of all these schools would be appreciated :)

Well upon doing a little on my homework (which I should have done before posting lol) Cumberland Heights is a little further than I care to drive back and forth every day and Montgomery Central isnt even anywhere near Haha. So that narrowed it down. So if anyone has children that go to either Northeat Elemtary or Glenellen Elementary...Id like your opinions on the schools :)

Personally, if you are going to be here for 1st grade I would go to Glenellen. He would be happier to see familiar faces next year. From what I have heard from others both schools are good. My son went to North East. I like living and being close to the school. It also makes after school activities and meets with friends easier if you live close.

We live close to both schools. Actually Northeast is only about less than a mile further from our home than Glenellen so Im not worried about the distance. And this will be his first year in school at all so of course whatever school we choose I would stick with for the duration of our time here. I personally dont want to send him on the bus yet til hes older so either way Ill be driving him. Just want to send him to the best of the schools I can.

I did not know that you could automatically take your child to any school. I thought you needed to use the district you are located in. Shows how long it has been since my kids were in school.

You usually can't. They are supposed to go to the school they are zoned at but certain schools take applications from outside their zones from certain grades and are reviewed and either accepted or denied. Its not just a automatic thing.
