I think someone mentioned this a little while ago. Not sure if it's the same address or not, but the story sounds familiar.

Leaf Chronicle House Rental Scam Article

I'm not normally a violent person... but this makes me want to smash her face into a wall a few times.

OMG, what a total b!*ch! Those poor families, and moving...I couldn't imagine, I hope she spends a good amount of time in prison. And thieves should repay their debt.

Married2aFox --- 14 years ago -

unfortunately we were one if the families she scammed... I hope she spends the rest of her life in prison regardless of whether or not she repays the money she stole from all of us... she was so believable but I still feel stupid for trusting her...

last I heard from the detective she was out on bond so I'm glad to read shes back in jail...

in the meantime we're all stuck looking for somewhere else to live...

ps I'm not a violent person either but god help her if I ever see her again!

I don't understand why people would rent/lease/buy a place to live without even seeing it. You just deal with someone over the internet and over the phone, send them your money, and hope for the best? That's crazy. Get here, spend a few nights in a motel, check out the area, get something that doesn't come with a butt load of surprises.

ps, she looks like Don King!

I'm not sure about the other families but my husband and I saw the house in person, signed a lease and gave a deposit... we even verified she and her husband were the listed owners on the property by calling the county offices... she seemed legitimate to us...

I have to agree with this. When we PCSed we stayed in a hotel for like 4-5 days and looked for a house. The Army reimbursed us for all days we stayed in the hotel for.

we stayed in town for a week house hunting before coming to visit family for the rest of our pcs leave thinking we had a rental home to go back to...

Married2aFox --- 13 years ago -

basically she was a really good scam artist even to those who did their due diligence (or at least we thought we did everything right)

Married2aFox --- 13 years ago -

I guess we're one of the "lucky" families because we found out about the scam while we are visiting family so we have time to make plans to find another home... others are left without money and a place to stay while they search for something... unfortunately we will not be able to go thru a home owner this time so we're using a property management company and they are understanding that we won't give any deposits until we get keys when we get back to campbell... we'll end up spending more than bah for rent this way but once you've been burned you learn your lesson...

I'm sorry you were scammed. It sickens me that things like this are becoming a regular occurrence these days.
It makes me wonder though... did this woman think she would get away with this? To promise the same residence to at least 16 families, doesn't make sense. Obviously these people are going to attempt to move in at some point.

Married2aFox --- 13 years ago -

that is how it was figured out... several of the families signed leases saying they were moving in on the 1st so they were all there to move in at the same time. our lease was dated the 15th so we wouldn't have known til we got there if it weren't for the internet and a friend in clarksville... like I said luckily we found out in time to cancel our hhg delivery and to find another place to live...

☆Mandi☆ --- 13 years ago -

I realize that. That's why I said I wonder what she was thinking. There's no way she could have gotten away with it. Why would you try to pull a scam if you knew you would get caught?
